Download Google Chrome Browser for Desktop and Mobile Platforms

This page is the quiet machine version of the portal: four official buttons, platform notes, a step list, system checks, version notes for this cycle, and six installer questions. It is written so you can finish a first install without opening a second search tab.

Read the featured panel if you already know your device. Read the later sections if you are installing on a loaner laptop, a shared family computer, or a phone that already has another browser. Every download control on this page is a plain link. Nothing waits for a script to invent a hidden address.

Featured Google Chrome Download Desk With Four Buttons

The featured desk is the same four addresses printed in the hero. This section explains what each click starts, so you do not treat a store listing like a desktop helper or the other way around.

Windows first

Most readers on this portal start with Windows. The helper is ChromeSetup.exe at /cdn_download/chrome/ChromeSetup.exe. Save it where you can find it, then open it once. A second click while the first copy is still running can confuse the helper, so wait for the progress window before you try again.

macOS next

The macOS button opens the official package URL in a new tab. Download the package, then follow the dialog. If you already have Chrome, the package upgrades the same channel instead of inventing a second app with a new name. Keep the old icon in the Dock until the new build opens once.

Phones last

iOS and Android buttons leave this site and open store listings. Install from those listings only. A sideloaded file that claims to be Chrome for a phone is outside this desk. After the store finishes, open the app once so the first-run screens can appear on the device you will actually carry.

The featured desk is intentionally short. People who arrive from a search result often want the file more than they want an essay. The rest of this page exists for the cases that fail: a locked PC, a blocked package, a phone that already has three browsers, and a reader who wants to know what “stable channel” means before they click. If none of those cases is yours, the four buttons above are enough.

Platform Notes for Each Google Chrome Installer Channel

Each channel has a different publisher screen after the click. These notes keep those screens from feeling like a bait-and-switch.

Windows channel

Windows setup is a two-stage path. The helper is small. The full desktop build follows. You need disk space for both the temporary files and the final program folder. A nearly full drive is the most common reason the second stage stops. Clear a few large downloads you no longer need, then run the helper again. Stay on a network that does not require a hotel login page in the middle of the transfer.

macOS channel

The package is signed. Your Mac may still ask you to confirm that you meant to open it. That confirm is part of the platform, not a defect. Drag the app where the dialog tells you to drag it. If you keep an old copy in Downloads as well as in Applications, you can open the wrong icon next week. Delete the leftover package after the app launches once from Applications.

iOS channel

The App Store listing is the only iOS path we print. You need an Apple ID that can install free apps. Some managed school iPads block store installs. This portal cannot unlock a managed device. If the Get button is missing, the restriction is on the iPad, not on this page. Use a personal phone if the school image is closed.

Android channel

The Play Store listing is the only Android path we print. Work profiles can hide Play or limit which apps a personal account may add. Install into the profile you actually use for the web. Opening Chrome in the wrong profile looks like a failed install even when the package is present. After the first launch, decide whether that copy should sign in.

None of these channels requires you to disable security software. A page that demands that step is not this desk. If an extra toolbar appears during setup, you are not in the flow we document. Close the extra offer and, if needed, run the official helper again from the Windows button on this page.

Installing Google Chrome Step by Step on a Quiet Machine

A quiet machine means you are not in the middle of a call, you can approve a prompt, and you can wait for a progress bar. The steps below assume that kind of hour.

Step 1 — Confirm the device

Name the device out loud: this Windows laptop, this Mac, this iPhone, or this Android phone. Click only the matching button. Mixing the Windows helper onto a phone, or hunting a desktop file for iOS, is how people land on unofficial copies. If you are helping someone else, sit with their device, not yours.

Step 2 — Run the file or store install

On Windows, open ChromeSetup.exe after it finishes saving. On macOS, open the package from the official link. On phones, use the store install button. Stay on the screen until the publisher or store confirms success. Do not switch to a second installer from a pop-up that appears behind the window.

Step 3 — Open one known page

Launch Chrome and open a page you already trust, such as a news site you read every morning. If that page loads, the install worked well enough to continue. Then decide about import and sign-in. You can postpone both. The browser does not expire if you leave those boxes for tomorrow.

If the helper cannot write files, read the error instead of clicking retry in a loop. “Need administrator permission” means you need a person with that permission. “Not enough space” means you need to delete something. “Network interrupted” means you need a cleaner connection. Those three messages cover most weekday failures. This portal will not invent a fourth secret step that bypasses them.

After the first window opens, pin Chrome to the taskbar or Dock if you want it as the daily browser. Leaving it buried in a folder is how people reopen the old browser by habit and then write to us that “nothing installed.” The product is there. The shortcut is not in the place their hand already knows.

A second device can wait. Finish one machine, browse for a day, then add a phone if you still want the same bookmarks in a bag. Installing four copies in one sitting is possible and usually unnecessary. The guide explains first-run choices if you want more than these three steps.

Google Chrome System Requirements Before You Run a File

Requirements below are practical checks for this download cycle, not a legal appendix. If a machine fails these checks, fix the machine first.

Check What we expect on a weekday desk What to do if it fails
Operating system A supported current Windows or macOS release, or a current iOS or Android store device. Update the system first. This desk does not publish legacy offline packs.
Disk space Room for the helper, the payload, and a little spare after install. Empty Downloads and the recycle bin, then retry.
Account rights Permission to write program files on Windows, or permission to install store apps on phones. Ask the owner of the image. Do not disable security tools.
Network A connection that can reach the update and store services without a half-finished hotel login. Complete the captive portal, then start the helper again.

Very old processors and very small tablets can run Chrome and still feel slow with many tabs. That is a hardware limit. Lower the number of open pages or use the machine for lighter work. This download desk will not claim that a ten-year-old netbook will feel new after the helper finishes. Honesty here prevents a one-star complaint that is really a hardware story.

Virtual machines work if the guest system meets the same checks. Assign enough memory to the guest. A starved virtual machine will blame the browser for pauses that belong to the host. Test one page before you migrate a whole bookmark file into the guest profile.

Google Chrome Version Notes for This Download Cycle

These notes describe the 2026-08-24 cycle on this portal. They are not a changelog of every pixel in the stable channel.

This cycle still uses a Windows helper named ChromeSetup.exe, a macOS package from Google’s download host, and the same two store listings for phones. We did not add Linux. We did not add a beta button. We did not add an enterprise bundle. If you need those, you are reading the wrong desk, and you should use the channels Google documents for those audiences.

Readers who already have Chrome do not need to uninstall before they click. The helper upgrades the existing stable install in place. You may see a restart of the browser. Save form work in other windows first. Extensions usually return after the restart. If an extension fails to load, open the extensions page and enable it once instead of downloading a second Chrome from a random result.

If you are moving from a very old build that has not updated in years, plan a few extra minutes. Cookie databases and profile files can take a moment to settle. Do not pull the power during that settle. When the first window appears, check that your bookmark bar still lists the sites you expect. If it does not, do not panic and do not install a third copy. Use import or sign-in, as the homepage FAQ already describes.

This portal’s job in a version cycle is to keep the four links stable and the surrounding language honest. We will not rename the Windows file to something fashionable. We will not wrap the helper in a second downloader. If you arrived from a page that did those things, use the buttons on this desk and ignore that other page.

Google Chrome Installer Questions From First-Time Users

Six installer questions, answered in the same words as the FAQ structured data on this page.

Why does the Windows button use a .exe path instead of a store?

Desktop Windows still installs Chrome with a helper executable named ChromeSetup.exe. That file is the official starter for the stable channel on a PC. Phone platforms use stores because Apple and Google distribute mobile apps that way. Use the matching button for the device in your hand and ignore any page that mixes those two models.

Do I need administrator rights to finish a Windows install?

Most office images ask for an administrator confirm when the helper writes program files. If you do not have that right, the setup will stop at the prompt and this portal cannot override the policy. Ask the person who manages the laptop, or install only on a machine you own. A user-folder copy is not something we document here.

What should I do if macOS blocks the package?

Open the package from the official macOS button on this page, then read the Gatekeeper dialog instead of searching for a bypass. Confirm the publisher name and continue only if it matches what you expect from Google. If a blog tells you to disable security settings for the whole disk, close that tab and return to this desk.

Can I finish setup without signing in to a Google account?

Yes. The installer writes the browser first. The sign-in screen is a later choice inside the first window. You can browse, import bookmarks from a file, and skip sync entirely. Sign in only when you want the same data on a second device.

How do I update after the first install without returning here?

Chrome checks the stable channel while you work, as long as the machine can reach the update service. You do not need this download page for ordinary patches. If a workplace freezes the version, that freeze is a policy, and a second helper click will not always lift it. Home desks almost always receive updates without a second visit.

Is there a Linux button on this download desk?

No. This portal publishes only Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. We do not invent a fifth address. If you need Linux packages, use the channels Google documents on its own product pages, not a mirror invented by a comment. This desk stays with the four links listed in the featured panel.

If the questions are settled, use one featured button above. If you want a longer reading of first-run boxes and safety habits, continue to the guide.
